Is there any way to get around the emissions test in Maricopa county? Can I get my 85 K5 registered as a classic or something to get around emissions? I HATE emissions and don't really want to deal with it, but I need to register my truck so I can street drive it when I move back to AZ.
I know my truck can pass the emissions test if I reconnect/keep all the smog crap but I would like to get rid of it to clean up the engine bay & get rid of my cat when I rebuild the exhaust.

you can register it up north if you know someone up there.
what year is it? you can only register it as classic if you have classic auto insurance. and it can only be driven so many miles a year, and you have to have another car registered as non classic. and it has to be 25 years old.
the first idea is the easiest to do

I "live" in Cherry. I registered an RV at "my" house in Cherry and they send the registration papers to my house in Mesa. MVD screwed up though and even though I told them that the RV was the only vehicle I wanted registered there all my vehicles ended up with no emissions stamp on them. Oops. My Dad though, tried to register his motorcycle in Maricopa and MVD wanted a letter from a town official certifying that he resided there. You do get a different color sticker for your plate for non-emissions.

Well the EPA permission to allow AZ to exempt collectibles and special event vehicles has published in the Federal Register December 28th 2006 . The 30 day window on public comment has come and gone . So its Federal Code by now .
Arizona isn't ready yet with its implementation .
I think it could be done , registering it as a special event vehicle , I.E four wheel drive club events . But it will be several months before we are allowed to even try .

when I had my 75 CJ (w/chevy 327), I did this......
punched out all the innards of the cat (they just want to see it)\
Used a smog pump from a toyota (corrolla, I think) and ran the main hose to the back of the engine and tucked into the space between the floor and the tranny (again, they just want to see it and it was removed after the inspection)
used some landscaping sprinkler line around the carb so it looked like everything was there
the only permanent device I left was the canister, since it was out of the way....
passed every year......
